Recent
Script Sales – May
A number of
novel adaptations, a handful of specs, and some low-to-mid budget
projects dot the May script sales landscape. Disney will remake a
live-action version of Cinderella, in addition to 20,000
Leagues Under the Sea. Cameron Crowe dips back into directing and
will helm the family-drama project We Bought a Zoo. And since
it's been so long since we've seen the beginnings of the Spider-Man
series, the franchise will get a re-boot (it has been almost
eight years since the "original" awesome version came out. . .). Maybe Die
Hard 5 will make up for it--John McClane's coming back.
Other
selected sales include:
--New Line's MacGyver will see a
reload for the big screen. Jason Richman will pen the adaptation.
--JJ
Abram's Bad Robot and writer Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams)
will team up on a heist action/thriller revolving around the true story
of thieves that robbed a jewelry facility in Belgium.
--A film
adaptation of the TV series Gidget.
--The Age of
Adelaine, focusing on a women who becomes immortal after an
accident. Katherine Heigl will star.
--Lionel Grandison's story
of helping cover up Marilyn Monroe's apparent suicide in Marilyn.
--The
comedy Clown Girl, optioned by and starring Kristen Wiig. Plot
is sort of self-explanatory. . .

The
Warner Bros. Television Writers’ Workshop consists of three components,
all geared towards preparing the writer for a successful career in
television writing.
Lectures: Weekly lectures feature guest
speakers currently working in television and include a mix of
showrunners, directors, actors and agents. Each seminar will teach a new
skill essential for surviving and excelling in a writers’ room as a
staff writer and beyond.
Simulated Writers’ Room: After the
lectures, the Workshop participants are divided into smaller groups for
an intensive writing experience. Each participant will be required to
complete a new spec script under the same deadlines found on a show
currently in production. How participants perform during this exercise
will determine whether they will be chosen for a possible staffing
position on a Warner Bros. show. Yes, the stakes are that high!
Staffing:
Upon completion of the program, Studio executives will help
participants, who pass the Writers' Room, obtain a staff position on a
Warner Bros. television show currently in production. We can’t guarantee
you will get staffed, but we will get your material in front of the
people who make the ultimate decisions – the showrunners.
The
2010–2011 Warner Bros. Television Writers’ Workshop will run October
2010–March 2011, with meetings on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles,
California, every Wednesday evening from 7 p.m.–10 p.m. Full
participation is mandatory.

Pipeline Success Stories
2008
Script Pipeline Winning Script “Shrapnel” Optioned by FilmEngine
“Shrapnel”
by Evan Daugherty, one of the four grand prize winners of Script
Pipeline’s 2008 competition, was recently optioned by FilmEngine LA.
The script is currently going out to talent and the process of securing
financing has begun.
After introductions to Jake Wagner
(previously of Energy Entertainment) by Script Pipeline, Evan landed
representation with Energy. After meetings with top execs, Evan was
hired by Warner Bros. to pen an adaptation of their then-franchise
Greyskull, based on the TV show and action figure line He-Man. To top
off a big year for the young writer: "Shrapnel" made The Blacklist as
one of the “hottest” unproduced scripts of 2008.
From the judges
who reviewed "Shrapnel" and the entire staff at Script Pipeline, we wish
Evan the best as his career steams ahead.

Writers Workshop “Recommend” Screenplay Optioned by Paranormal Activity
Producers
Micah Barnett’s “The Merc List,” submitted to
the Script Pipeline Writers Workshop in 2009, has been optioned by Jason
Blum and Steven Schneider, the producers of Paranormal Activity.
In
what was a somewhat quick progression of events, writer Micah Barnett
submitted the action script to the Workshop, received his notes with a
“strong consider” grade, and was given some additional feedback from a
senior analyst within a handful of days. Script Pipeline then sent "The
Merc List" direct to some potentially suitable management companies, it
was quickly read, and Micah signed with a manager within the week. The
script getting optioned took less than a year.

the Writers Workshop and our process of circulation assistance, click here.
Recommend Writers Suzanne Gill and Ann Isherwood Option
“The Pet Sitter”
Through an extensive series of notes and
feedback, including one-on-one consults, from Script Pipeline’s Writers
Workshop, Suzanne Gill and Ann Isherwood have drawn the attention of
Barbara Bitel with the Silver Bitela Agency, who is now repping their
project, “The Pet Sitter.” Barbara discovered the screenplay through
Script Pipeline partner InkTip. Numerous drafts of the romantic comedy
were submitted, as Suzanne and Ann reworked the screenplay based on
in-depth Workshop notes.

Pipeline Feedback
Thanks to all the writers worldwide who took the time to send
in their comments. For more extensive list of Feedback, click here.
Here
are just a sampling of some recent quotes:
"My notes were provided in record time. I really
appreciate that. Very pleased with the notes themselves; very
good coverage analysis; examples were greatly appreciated."
"Once
again, after a first quick read, these notes are already useful. The
script is still developing, as you know, but I am excited to report that
it has been optioned and I am working with a producer/director to
develop it. That process is underway, and your notes are timely."
"Thanks
for the prompt service.
I found the notes to be exceptional— well written, incisive,
thorough,
and upbeat. I have taken many of the suggestions to heart and
will begin a
rewrite forthwith."
"Although I'm just printing this out now to
read, I would like to extend a big thank you for responding
so promptly to
my questions. It looks like Andrew [consultant] addressed
everything I wanted to know."
"I appreciate the thoughtfulness of your
comments and the time you invested in this. This is way
above and beyond
anything I've encountered from contests in the past--and
I've entered many of them."
"As for your evaluator, I would give him/her a
10 across the board. Although I didn't agree with
everything, the comments
and suggestions were all valid and smart. In my revised
script, I incorporated
many of the suggestions. Money well spent. Thanks again."
"I have to say Script P.I.M.P. has been a great
experience. The staff is always courteous and professional.
Any questions are
immediately answered, 24/7. The writer's database has been a
fantastic resource
and I look forward to continuing my relationship with the
P.I.M.P. –
Sean Fallon (2009 Finalist)
"I've found SP to be very professional and proactive, even
going
so far as calling me the day before the contest posted, to
let me know that I was a finalist.
Matt, over at Script P.I.M.P, has been very communicative
throughout the entire process,
and answered all my questions in a timely manner. The best
thing about the contest though,
is that I've already received several read requests from
managers and production companies. –
Jason Carreiro (2009
Finalist)
"Script P.I.M.P.'s contest is very professionally run, and
so far it has been an excellent experience. I feel that the
contest definitely has potential
to open doors, and potentially offer significant exposure to
winners and finalists. I highly
recommend this contest and commend the very helpful people
running it! –
Matthew Altman (2009
Finalist)
